Known as Yuen Chung m he was 31 when this drawing
was made.. He was married in Hong Kong two years
before he came to America. He came to Salem in 1883,
he cleans carpets, sews them, and does other odd
jobs in Salem.

Jim
Chung , 1893, a well known resident of Salem. Jim
was 44 years old in this drawing and had arrived
in America in 1863. He worked ten years in California,
gardening, and has since resided in Salem. He left
a son and daughter behind in China. Jim is a carpet
surgeon and carpet cleaner. He does other odd jobs.
He once had a sign painted and put up over the front
door of his den. It read: "JIM CHUNG. HE WANT
A JOB TO DO EVERYTHING.
